DeCamara: Howie Roseman 'mismanaged' Haason Reddick situation

Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie are not pleased with the Eagles' decision to trade their best defensive player in Haason Reddick.

The Philadelphia Eagles traded star pass rusher Haason Reddick on Friday to the New York Jets for a 2026 third-round that could become a second-round pick (if Reddick plays 67.5-percent of snaps and records 10-plus sacks).

"Here's what I definitely know, I can't stand the outcome," DeCamara said on Monday's 94WIP Morning Show. "I can't stand it.

"Why couldn't they do this next year?" Ritchie asked rhetorically. "14 million dollars, we had him under contract...I don't understand why we couldn't take advantage of really prime position that Howie had put himself in...I know it really didn't feel fair, so maybe you try to work out something a little further for this year, you throw him some bonus money or something."

DeCamara believes Eagles general manager Howie Roseman "mismanaged" the situation.

"It just feels totally bungled and mismanaged," DeCamara said. "The Eagles have done a lot right in the recent years, Howie I think is a great general manager. It just feels to me like he mismanaged this one. At some point, you've got to find a way to find a way and they didn't. And it really bothers me."

Just about five hours before Super Bowl LVIII began, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Reddick has received permission to seek a trade and "could land elsewhere."

On February 13th, Reddick clarified that he never asked for a trade and wanted to remain in Philadelphia.

“I would like to get an extension done here at home. At no point did I ever tell the organization I want to be traded," Reddick said via B/R Jordan Schultz . "This is home for me. I was born and raised here. Two of the most fun years playing football in my life came here. I’ve cherished being an Eagle.”

The Camden, NJ native had a career-high 16.0 sacks in 2022 and five forced fumbles, plus another 11.0 sacks in 2023. Reddick added 3.5 sacks in three playoff games during the Eagles' run to the Super Bowl last year.

However, in the final four games of the 2023 regular seasons, Reddick did not record a sack.

Early in free-agency, the Eagles and 26-year-old defensive end Josh Sweat agreed to a new one-year deal for the 2024 season worth $10 million guaranteed with a max value of $13 million. Sweat previously had no guaranteed money.

Sweat has 35.0 sacks in six seasons in the NFL, all with the Eagles, including a career-best 11.0 sack 2022 season following a 7.5 sack 2021 Pro Bowl campaign.

Also, the Eagles' first 2024 free-agency addition was signing former New York Jets pass rusher Bryce Huff to a three-year deal worth $51.1 million.

Huff, 25, recorded 10.0 sacks in 17 games last season, despite playing just 42-percent of the snaps as mainly a passing situation player.
