Douglas: 'Huff can be better pass rusher than Reddick'

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Hugh Douglas is OK with the franchise's controversial decision to trade star pass rusher Haason Reddick in large part due to Bryce Huff, who Douglas believes can be better than Reddick.

"I think Bryce Huff has the potential of being a better pass rusher," Douglas said on Monday's 94WIP Midday Show, getting his first chance to react to the trade that broke on Friday afternoon.

"Go look at his rushes compared to Haason Reddick's rushes and the reason why I feel that way is because he's more of a physical rusher. He has to me more of an ability to strike fear in the heart of a tackle and beat a tackle in a one-on-one situation than Haason Reddick."

"I feel like they had to trade Haason Reddick for a number of reasons that we cannot fathom," Douglas said.

The Eagles traded the 29-year-old Reddick to the Jets for a 2026 third-round pick that can become a second-rounder if Reddick plays 67.5-percent of snaps and records 10-plus sacks.

Reddick, 29, is entering the final year of his contract, a three-year, $45 million deal he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in March of 2022, and is set to enter 2024 with no guaranteed money. H e reportedly does not have a new deal with the Jets , whom will receive a compensatory pick if he leaves for free-agency after the season.

Mike Garafolo reports the Jets will take on Reddick's $14.5 million contract for 2024 and the Eagles will pay his $1 million roster bonus. The Jets and Reddick are reportedly working on a new deal.

Joe Giglio, Douglas' co-host, is not a fan of the trade.

"The Philadelphia Eagles made a mistake," said Giglio. "I believe the Eagles just got worse. The traded away their best pass rusher, they traded away their best closer, they traded away the only guy on the roster—the only one—who is a lock for 10 sacks."

The Eagles signed Huff, Reddick's replacement, to a three-year deal worth $51.1 million early in free-agency.

Huff, 25, recorded 10.0 sacks in 17 games last season, despite playing just 42-percent of the snaps as mainly a passing situation player.

Reddick had a career-high 16.0 sacks in 2022 and five forced fumbles, plus another 11.0 sacks in 2023. Reddick added 3.5 sacks in three playoff games during the Eagles' run to the Super Bowl in 2023.
