Hugh Douglas wants the Eagles to double-down on offense in NFL Draft

Former Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Hugh Douglas has some how become the offense guy on the 94WIP Midday Show.

Douglas argued with Joe Giglio on Tuesday's show that the Eagles should double down on offense and focus on that side of the ball in this month's NFL Draft.

"I cannot get on board with idea of doubling down on more offense," Giglio began on Tuesday.

"Listen, if we're scoring 30-40 points—if we're at the historic rate of scoring in the NFL, I really don't care who you put out there on defense as long as they don't mess up the assignment," Douglas argued. "Just know what you're supposed to do, because you are probably going to be playing teams that are going to be playing catch up anyway. As long as you have a competent defense and a defense that is good enough to match up well and get after quarterbacks, I'm OK with that. I feel like the biggest issue that this defense had last year, is they were incompetent."

The Eagles have the No. 22 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which is 16 days away. This offseason they added star running back Saquon Barkley to an offense that already has Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert. They have also signed veteran receivers in Parris Campbell and DeVante Parker.

As a team, the Eagles finished eighth in the NFL in yards per game and seventh in scoring last season. On defense, they allowed the seventh most yards and third most points per game.

This offseason, the Eagles lost legendary defensive tackle Fletcher Cox to retirement and traded top pass rusher Haason Reddick, while signing Jets pass rusher Bryce Huff.

"Am I in Philadelphia?" Giglio joked. "The city that was built on defense. Sometimes I walk in here and I'm like what city am I in? The Eagles' priority in this draft needs to be defense. They need playmakers and big time players on the defensive end."
