Fritz: 'We are being over reactionary and nitpicky with Phillies'

Jack Fritz is already fed up with what he is calling "over reactionary" and "nitpicky" analysis of the Phillies after a offensively slow 6-6 start to the season.

"I am already annoyed by people and it's only taken 12 games for me to get to this point," Fritz said on Thursday's 94WIP Afternoon Show. "We are being so, and I mean so, over reactionary and nitpicky with this baseball team. They are .500.

"Listen, those games [last season in the NLCS] sucked and I was damn near on the verge of tears when they lost last year to the Diamondbacks. It was gruesome. But I think we are using that so much against this team...I think we're so obsessed with how they lost last year that it's getting in the way of just watching them grow. We're watching a new team grow here, it's a new season."

Ike Reese pushed back a little, saying that it is the same roster.

"It's a whole new journey," Fritz replied. "Like the '03 Eagles were different than the '04 Eagles...We're 12 games into the season. For me, it's just been far too nitpicky."

After losing their opening series at home to the Braves and a 4-2 road trip against the Reds and Cardinals, the Phillies are 6-6, just 2.0 games back of the NL East leaving 7-3 Braves.

The main issue for the fanbase has been the Phillies' ineptitude and lack of consistency at the plate. Offensively, the Phils are batting just .234, 19th in MLB. Their .342 slugging percentage is 24th in the league.

Specifically, guys like Nick Castellanos (7-43) and Johan Rojas (5-31) have taken the brunt of the criticism. However, Kyle Schwarber (.208), Bryce Harper (.214), Bryson Stott (.211), and Alec Bohm (.238) are all hitting under .240.
