Phillies reach 30 wins at second fastest pace in franchise history behind dominant starting rotation

Tuesday afternoon at Citi Field the Phillies became the first team in Major League Baseball to 30 wins, doing so in just 43 games. In the history of the franchise dating back to 1883, only the 1976 Phils got to 30 faster. While there's still a long road of 119 games ahead, it's important to note the World Series winning team had just 24 wins to this point.

The biggest reason for the record pace is the starting rotation. Coming off his fourth career complete game shutout, Aaron Nola spoke to Scott Franzke on Sportsradio 94WIP about his mindset after each outing.

"I don't go back and look at any analytic stuff," Nola said. "For me, enjoy this one today, flush it and get on to the Nationals."

No other staff in baseball has as many wins (29) as Philadelphia, and they're second only to the Mariners in quality starts.

Arguably the team's MVP Ranger Suarez leads all of baseball with seven (7-0) wins, sporting a jaw dropping ERA of 1.50. Despite a hiccup in his last outing, Zack Wheeler's 2.53 ERA isn't too shabby either.

Aaron Nola, the star of Tuesday, now has a 2.35 ERA in his last eight starts and a 3.10 ERA on the season.

After what seemed like a generation trying to find three decent starters, the Phils now have six in a five man rotation. In 2023, the rotation had a combined five games where the starting pitcher went seven or more shutout innings. So far in 2024, it has already happened six times.
