Spike: Eagles should be 'held accountable' for last year's collapse when predicting record this season

Spike predicted the Eagles to win 10 games in the upcoming season, and after seeing several of his colleagues, and much of the fanbase, forecast a much more successful campaign, he had to give a reminder about how last season ended.

“People are letting the Eagles off the hook from last year, and giving them a clean slate,” Spike said. “For me, they haven’t earned the sort of confidence that come from 13 or 14-win projections.

“They had a complete and total breakdown in the second half of the season. Offensively, defensively, players, coaches, everyone…we could confidently say it was the second worst collapse in Eagles franchise history.”

The Eagles responded to that collapse by shuffling the deck and bringing in new coaches on both sides of the ball, signing Saquon Barkley, trading Hasson Reddick, and executing a draft that the fanbase was widely happy with. Still, that doesn’t erase a year of frustration in the eyes of Spike, at least not enough to believe 13 or 14 wins is around the corner.

“They were winning games in the 10-1 portion of the season, but something didn’t seem right…so we can say the entire season was sort of a disaster from beginning to end,” Spike said. “They have not earned the benefit of the doubt to say they are a 13 or 14-win team just because they’re talented. I’m surprised that everyone here - who says they have high standards and hold people accountable - are not holding the Eagles accountable and at least waiting to see how they look before committing to 13 or 14 wins with championship aspirations.”
