Jon Johnson on 34-14 Phillies: 'Impossible not to fall in love'

"It doesn't matter any position we're in, how far we're down, how much we're up or anything like that, we play 27 outs for a reason, and we do a great job with that."

That was Bryce Harper on Saturday night following his 10th inning walk-off sacrifice fly to complete the Phillies come from behind 4-3 win over the Nationals, whom they would go on to sweep.

It has become increasingly difficult to put into words what we're witnessing. As a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan there's always a little voice in the back of your mind expecting something to go wrong, always keeping you on edge.
Granted there's still a long way to go, but to a watch a team play all 27 (or more) outs every game, have the shared perspective in the clubhouse, connect with fans the way they have, resulting in a start few fans have ever seen, it's impossible not to fall in love.

We're not even through the month of May and the Phils have six series' sweeps. Last season, they had seven total. At 34-14, they are tied for the best start through 48 games in franchise history. For inquiring minds, they would need to win their next two games to pass the 1976 Phillies for the best start in franchise history.

Whether it's a grizzled veteran, a member of the daycare, or a call-up in Kody Clemens (who might be impossible to send back down), all are proving they can be counted on when the game is on the line. Oh, and don't forget the best starting rotation in Major League Baseball.
