The Philadelphia 76ers are a legitimate threat to steal LeBron James from the Los Angeles Lakers, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

"I would be surprised if he's not a Laker, but it is fair to point out Daryl Morey has been trying to sign LeBron for a decade now," Windhorst said on ESPN. "And of the teams that have a chance to win the championship next year, the only team with cap space that can offer LeBron a max contract is the Philadelphia 76ers...The 76ers are a threat, I don't think they're a serious threat, but certainly in the NBA you never rule anything out."

When asked if he would be surprised if the Sixers went after LeBron James, Windhorst said, "Not only would I not be surprised, I would expect it. That's the way Daryl Morey operates. He always goes after every star."

ESPN's Bobby Marks called this offseason "the most important in franchise history" for the Sixers , who are set to have around $60 million in cap space to add to their two stars in Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.

Joe Giglio and Hugh Douglas discussed Windhorst's comments and the potential of the Sixers signing LeBron James.

"I just hope everyone is ready and I mean everyone around here is ready for LeBron watch because Daryl Morey is certainly going to go after him," Giglio said on Tuesday's 94WIP Midday Show. "It's going to happen here for the next month...I don't know what LeBron is prioritizing at this point.

"Because if it's to win a championship again, I don't know many options better than the Sixers."

LeBron has previously publicly said that he wants to play with his son before retiring.

Bronny James, 19, is expected to enter the NBA Draft after just one season at USC where he started six games averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game.

The Sixers have the 16th overall pick in this summer's NBA Draft, while the Lakers have the 17th overall pick.
