    Block cleanup moves to North Philly neighborhoods this week

    Crews will begin cleaning six North Philadelphia neighborhoods this week as part of a massive summer sweep .

    How it works: Over the next week, city staff from a dozen agencies will sweep streets and sidewalks, patch potholes, remove abandoned autos , and clean SEPTA stations in the following neighborhoods:


    • Hunting Park, Olney, Fern Rock, East Oak Lane, Feltonville and Franklin.

    Catch up quick: Mayor Cherelle Parker's citywide cleaning program, which runs through Aug. 26, will beautify more than 18,000 blocks.

    What they're saying: The program is on schedule heading into Week 2, city spokesperson Keisha McCarty-Skelton tells Axios.

    By the numbers: Last week, crews cleaned at least 549 blocks and 175 vacant lots in parts of Northeast Philly, including Frankford and Kensington, per the city's tracking website as of Friday.

    • They removed at least 35 abandoned autos.
    • More than 230 properties were cited by the city's Department of Licenses and Inspections.
