Giglio: 'Phillies should ask Bryce to play OF and acquire best available bat at deadline'

Joe Giglio believes the Philadelphia Phillies should go after the best available bat at the July 30th trade deadline, even if said player is a first baseman.

"It's time to get creative," Giglio said at the beginning of Thursday's 94WIP Midday Show with Hugh Douglas.

"Has anyone looked at Alec Bohm's numbers since the beginning of May? It's not good and he's hitting clean up...I just think they need a big bat to go finish this thing and win the World Series.

"Every time we bring it up we say, outfield, outfield, outfield because that's where they have some holes...But what if there was an outside the box way here to get another hitter? Because when I look at the potential bats out there, a lot of these guys happen to be infielders. A lot of these guys happen to be corner infielders.

"If the Phillies' best option for a trade, for a big bat, is I don't know—Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Pete Alonso—first baseman. What about the idea of asking Bryce for the rest of the season to go back to the outfield and they acquire a first baseman because I am skeptical that Alec Bohm is a true clean up hitter."

Phillies clean up hitter Alec Bohm slashed just .243/.279/.369 in May with just one home run. In nine June games, Bohm is slashing .162/.200/.270 with just two extra base hits, as his struggles continue.

With J.T. Realmuto now expected to miss at least a month, likely more, with a meniscus injury, the Phillies may need to add some fire power to their offense.
