Joe Giglio believes the Philadelphia 76ers should trade Joel Embiid.

"Today is the day to realize this Sixers thing is a waste of time," Giglio said on Tuesday's 94WIP Midday Show with Hugh Douglas, on the morning after the Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA Championship. "I feel worse last night because the Celtics broke through and they're not going to stop any time soon. They've been the best team in the Eastern Conference for years and now they've won the ring and when players like Brown and Tatum win together in their mid twenties they don't stop winning.

"I think the Sixers have a better chance to win an NBA title sooner than later by trading Embiid and rebuilding than they do to try and go beat the Celtics."

Douglas and Midday Show producer Kyle Quinn disagreed with Giglio's unpopular take.

"I don't subscribe to that Joe," Douglas said. "I get what you're saying because you're talking about an Embiid window that's probably, what? Two to three years at most with the knee injuries...I hear you, but I'm not ready to throw the towel in. Anything can happen."

"If they don't do it now, by the time they make the decision they won't get anything back for Embiid," Giglio responded.

Embiid is entering his 11th year in the NBA and his age 30-31 season, which will be his ninth if you exclude his first two years where he did not play recovering from a foot injury.

The Sixers, for the first time in a long time, have an exciting future to build alongside of Embiid with a 23-year-old All-Star in Tyrese Maxey and clean slate with $60-plus million cap space for Daryl Morey and the front office to work with.
