Howard Eskin, on Tuesday's 94WIP Midday Show , said the Philadelphia Eagles could "Carson Wentz" Jalen Hurts if he has a bad season this year.

Eskin joined the 94WIP Morning Show on Thursday and explained his comment.

"It made it sound like I said the Eagles will Carson Wentz and the name just came to mind when I was on the air," Eskin said. "They 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 [move on from Jalen Hurts after the season]...you think of their history, they don't waste time. If they realize that he's not the right guy then they're going to move on and they find a way to fix the cap situation. So they could. Now, we don't know what's going to happen this year. I think Jalen Hurts will have a good year."

Hurts, who turns 26 on August 7th, signed a five-year deal worth $255 million ($179 million guaranteed) last offseason . He has cap hits of $13.5 million, $21.8 million, $31.2 million, and $41.8 million over the next four respective seasons with a potential out for the Eagles after the 2027 season when his dead cap number drops significantly.

In June of 2019, the Eagles signed Carson Wentz to a four-year, $128 million contract extension with $107 million guaranteed. Less than two years later, in March of 2021, the Eagles traded Wentz to the Colts for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 first-round pick. A year prior to the trade, during the 2020 NFL Draft, the Eagles controversially selected Hurts in the second-round.

Hurts was asked during his June 6th press conference about Nick Sirianni's open mindedness with the Eagles' new offense under Kellen Moore and gave two basically non-answers. About a week later, Jeff McLane on his Audacy unCovering The Birds Podcast , reported that people inside the Eagles' organization were unhappy with Hurts' answers to the questions.

"Here's what I found out when I started to check into this further," Eskin said. "[Hurts] said the offense is 95-percent different, new, correct? OK. It's 20-percent different, it's not 95-percent, it's only about 20-percent. I found that out from multiple people."

So why did Hurts say that?

"To make an excuse, because people criticized him with the way he was playing at camp," Eskin responded.

"I'm like disappointed [in Hurts], you don't need excuses. Take responsibility."
