Johnson: Cristopher Sanchez should be an All-Star

I will be the first to admit I was wrong about Cristopher Sanchez. 5th starter? Sure, but I thought he was nothing more than a forgettable innings eater to help get through 162 games.

Now with a little more than a week till all-star announcements, Sanchez sports a 2.67 ERA, second only to Ranger Suarez in the National League.

A day after signing an unexpected four year contract extension, the 27 year old threw seven shutout innings in a Phillies 4-1 win over the Diamondbacks at CBP on Sunday.

"He was brilliant today. He really was. All over there...he just did a masterful job", said Rob Thomson after the game. "He keeps the ball down. He's got good sink. He's keeps them off balance with the changeup."

All-star worthy?

"I would think so. You look at all the numbers and they stand out, and he's really come on."

The starting rotation has been the collective MVP of the 2024 Phillies and the top three ERA leaders in the NL (Suarez, Sanchez, Wheeler) should make the all-star team.
