Thursday was a tough night for the Philadelphia Phillies. Not only did they lose the game 7-4 to the Miami Marlins, but they lost multiple key players to injury.

The availability of Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber is up in the air as both were forced to exit the game. On the final play of the game, Harper felt his left hamstring tighten as he was running to first base.

He grabbed the back of his leg after crossing first base and fell to the ground. The Philadelphia Phillies challenged the play but Harper did not remain on the field to see the outcome, as he limped down the tunnel off the field.

“It hurts,” he said afterward . “We’re going to get an image tomorrow just to see what that looks like and see how I feel and go from there.”

An injury like this isn’t something Harper has dealt with previously. As a result, he doesn’t know what level of concern there will be until they get results back from the testing he has undergone.

“If I had something to go back on, I would let you know,” he said . “But I’ve never felt anything like this before.”

In the top of the ninth inning, Schwarber felt tightness in his groin when making a throw from the outfield. It was a rare appearance for him in the outfield, as he normally spends his time as the team’s designated hitter. It was only the third time he was in the field and it is something manager Rob Thomson will regret for a while if Schwarber is forced to miss time.

“I reached down to grab the ball barehanded and kind of planted for the throw and felt it grab,” Schwarber said . “I thought it was just a cramp at first and I finished the inning. But, as I was running in [between innings] I could still kind of feel it, so I talked to the trainer and he didn’t like where the spot was … so he wanted to get me out of there.”

Schwarber expressed more confidence than Harper did that his injury isn’t that bad overall. “Personally, I don’t think it’ll be super bad at all,” Schwarber said . “But we’ll see what happens.”

The Philadelphia Phillies haven’t had great luck when it comes to injuries this season. Shortstop Trea Turner missed six weeks earlier this season with an injury. Catcher J.T. Realmuto underwent surgery on a torn meniscus.

Starting pitchers Taijuan Walker and Spencer Turnbull also ended up on the injured list in recent days. Will they be able to survive with two more key players potentially being out of the lineup?
