The Philadelphia 76ers might be on the verge of making a major splash this free agency period.

At least, they appear to think so.

According to Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes, "There's growing optimism the Philadelphia 76ers will land Paul George in free agency."

Teams can begin negotiating with 2024 free agents beginning at 6 p.m. ET.

Last week, George declined his player option worth $48.8 million with the Clippers for next season, paving the way to become an unrestricted free agent.

Per Spotrac , Philadelphia has a projected $58.4 million in salary cap space.

Other teams reported to be interested in George include the Warriors, Magic and Jazz, but they might need to put the full-court press to beat the Sixers for the nine-time All-Star.

Last season, George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 47.1 percent, including a career-best 41.3 percent from beyond the arc.

If he heads to Philadelphia, he'd partner with 2022-23 league MVP Joel Embiid and guard Tyrese Maxey, who was named 2023-24 Most Improved Player and is widely expected to sign a lucrative extension with the franchise this offseason .

The Sixers finished 47-35 and were eliminated by the Knicks in the first-round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs in six games.
