The Philadelphia 76ers achieved what they set out to do at the outset of free agency. They were able to lure Paul George from the Los Angeles Clippers to the East Coast to join them on a 4-year $212 million deal. The Sixers now have three elite players leading the way.

The result seemed like a foregone conclusion even before the meeting. The Clippers admitted defeat as they released a statement saying they were losing George and wished him luck in the future.

The 9-time All-Star also wore a shirt paying homage to Sixers legend Allen Iverson. That all but sealed the deal that he would be a member of the organization when the night was over.

Iverson was one of the toughest players the league has ever seen. He went toe-to-toe with the giants of the NBA and never blinked. Now, George will look to help the Sixers get to a place they haven’t been to since the Iverson days in 2001: past the second round of the playoffs.
