Pub owners: Real estate listing is not for the restaurant

PENNSAUKEN — The address of The Pub — an iconic restaurant that closed Monday for "renovations/repairs" — is being advertised as a leasing opportunity by a commercial realty firm.

But the ad does not refer to the restaurant, according to a spokesman for the owners.

"The Pub is not for lease or sale," said attorney David Gelman, whose father Mark is a co-owner of the landmark eatery.

"If you look at the listing, you would see it does not detail The Pub. This is for the building behind it," he said.

The website for Philadelphia-based Binswanger identifies the five-acre site at 7600 Kaighn Avenue, which is also The Pub's address, as "proposed industrial outdoor storage property."

A site plan with an online flyer shows how the parking lot could be configured to hold 72 trailer stalls and 52 van/car spaces under one scenario, or 245 van/car spaces under another.

The leasing opportunity also is mentioned by other real estate websites, such as loopnet.com and The Pub building is prominently featured in a photo of the property.

Binswanger.com lists the location near the former Airport Circle as a featured property, stating the lease rate is negotiable, the property type is industrial, and the building size is 11,900 square feet.

The Pub, founded 73 years ago, caused near-panic among its patrons with a June 23 announcement that it would close "for renovations/repairs" from July 1 to Sept. 19.

The frenzy subsided when Gelman said changes would focus on infrastructure concerns like roofing, carpeting and the kitchen.

"The décor isn’t changing. Things will still look the same," he said in an interview last month.

The Pub has an almost medieval vibe, with chefs cooking prime rib and other meats over open-flame charcoal hearths in a cavernous dining hall that seats 500.

It occupies a massive Tudor-style building along Kaighn Avenue and the Admiral Wilson Boulevard.

The Binswanger flyer emphasizes the property's access to major highways, noting it's "minutes away from the Ben Franklin and Walt Whitman Bridges, {[and] offers ease of access to Center City Philadelphia and the entire Eastern Seaboard via Interstate 95.”

Closed for now The Pub is closing its doors, but a Facebook post says it's for renovations

It also says the property, when leased, will be delivered “fenced and lit."
