The Philadelphia Eagles stuck it to their NFC East rivals the New York Giants by signing their former star running back Saquon Barkley during free agency back in March.

And after Tuesday night’s debut episode of “Hard Knocks,” the world now knows the Giants planned on doing the same thing to the Eagles with running back D'Andre Swift.

“It’s going to be hard to get him out of Philly,” Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown said , via NBC Sports Chicago. “That’s home for him.”

Swift, who was traded to the Eagles during the 2023 NFL Draft, was one of a few running backs the Giants front office discussed potentially adding after parting ways with Barkley.

The 25-year-old tailback had a career year in Philly last season. He posted career highs in carries (229) and rushing yards (1,049), and he added 39 receptions, 214 yards receiving and six total touchdowns as the Eagles’ primary running back.

Swift also ranked in the top 20 in yards from scrimmage (1,263) and positioned himself to cash in during free agency.

“[Swift], from a physical talent standpoint can make up some of the things you lose with Saquon from an explosiveness standpoint, from a pass game standpoint,” Giants director of pro scouting Chris Rossetti added.

Once Barkley signed his three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Eagles, Swift inked a three-year, $24M deal. The Giants ultimately settled on former Houston Texans running back Devin Singletary, who rushed for a career-best 898 yards and four touchdowns, as Barkley’s replacement.
