PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Fourth of July is synonymous with family get-togethers, barbecues and of course, fireworks. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urges the public to be aware of fireworks safety.

The statistics are startling. Back in 2022, there were over 10,000 people treated in emergency departments for fireworks injuries, and 11 died from accidents due to fireworks.

Several key warnings to consider: never use fireworks when impaired by alcohol or drugs; never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully and never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks or sparklers.
