Should the Philadelphia 76ers reunite with Ben Simmons?

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to fill every possible void in their rotation, with fans even calling for a reunion with Brooklyn Nets' Ben Simmons.

A defensive-minded power forward is the biggest hole in their lineup following the acquisition of star Paul George, but Simmons is not the answer for either party involved.

For Philadelphia, their falling out with Simmons, specifically general manager Daryl Morey, feels like an unpatchable relationship. He requested a trade during the 2021 offseason after the Sixers' Game 7 postseason loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Simmons would then sit out until Feb. of 2022, losing out on millions of dollars before he was dealt to the Nets in exchange for star James Harden.

If the two sides could hypothetically come to common ground, injuries should still scare away an inconsistent Philadelphia roster. Joel Embiid and George each struggle with staying healthy every year, so it seems illogical to add Simmons to the mix. He has appeared in just 57 games over the past two seasons, averaging 6.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 6 assists on 57% shooting.

For Simmons, why does it make sense to return to an organization where he would likely hear boos at every home game? There's no denying Philadelphia has some of the most passionate sports fans in the country, and considering the three-time All-Star's history with the team, the odds wouldn't be in his favor.

The lone appeal for Simmons is the Sixers is where he spent the best seasons of his career, as a multiple-time All-Star, Rookie of the Year, and All-Defensive First Team member.
