Brian Windhorst expressed his frustration on 'First Take' regarding the ongoing narrative that Paul George's addition to a team would be a game-changer. Discussing George's recent signing with the Philadelphia 76er s, Windhorst noted that this marks the fourth time in seven years that George has been the headline of an offseason move.

"Let me say this about Paul George. Obviously, that's a huge moment. It's certainly the headline of the summer without question. This is the fourth time in about seven years that Paul George has been a headliner of an offseason move. One, when he was traded on June 30th from Indiana to Oklahoma City."

"The following year, when the Lakers and other teams were ready to make a big pitch to him, and he re-signed, if you remember, just all of a sudden showed up at a party with Russell Westbrook. That became a massive moment where the Thunder were able to keep him."

"The year after that, when he was included in the, one of the greatest and the most amazing trades in the history of the NBA, where he and Kawhi Leonard went together to the Clippers. This is now this time. So this is now the fourth time that you could say that he was a leading headline in the offseason. The previous three have led to what?"

"And that's my point. I'm not sure. I certainly recognize that the 76ers are a formidable team. I think they're going to need a year. I'm not going to put a lot of pressure on them to win this year. I know that that's the thing that you would say is, well, now Embiid's got to win."

"And I agree, especially for a team that hasn't gotten to the conference finals, that certainly would be the barrier. But historically, we see teams, when they hollow out their roster to create a big three, they always need more time to backfill that roster."

"And I'm going to give the Sixers that time to backfill that roster. But I'm just, I'm tired of sitting here the first week of July and declaring that a Paul Georgia arrival changes the everything, because I believe that with the Clippers. I thought that team was set up to dominate."

"Now, we had the pandemic, and that obviously affected Paul significantly, but bottom line, I'm just going to wait back a little bit before I'm willing to just assume that this fit will mean the changing of the guard somewhere."

Windhorst recapped George's previous significant moves: his trade from Indiana to Oklahoma City in 2017, his surprise re-signing with the Thunder in 2018, and his pivotal inclusion in the 2019 trade to the Los Angeles Clippers alongside Kawhi Leonard . Each of these moves was touted as transformative, yet Windhorst pointed out that they did not lead to the expected dominant outcomes.

He acknowledged that George joining the 76ers is a major moment, solidifying their status as a formidable team. However, Windhorst urged caution in declaring this move as the catalyst for immediate success.

He emphasized the need for the team to develop chemistry and fill out their roster properly, especially since the 76ers have not even reached the conference finals in recent years. He suggested that while the pressure on Joel Embiid to win is significant, the team should be given time to gel and strengthen their lineup before expecting championship results.

Windhorst also reflected on the expectations surrounding George's move to the Clippers, which many believed would lead to domination. Despite the pandemic's impact and various challenges, the anticipated dominance did not materialize. This, he argued, is a lesson in tempering expectations and allowing time for a team to coalesce.

Ultimately, Windhorst's message was clear: while Paul George is undeniably a talented player, the pattern of overhyping his moves needs to stop. Instead, he advocates for a more measured approach, giving the 76ers time to build a cohesive team around their new star.

He remains skeptical of immediately declaring any team with George as a contender, preferring to wait and see how the team evolves before making grand predictions.
