Philadelphia, PA – On the 4 th of July, Pro-Palestinian protesters were caught burning flags outside of City Hall.

Now in the latest update from police, six individuals have been arrested, and five have been charged with disorderly conduct, and one was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, failure to disperse, and disorderly conduct for assaulting an officer in the face.

Officers were on duty and monitoring a Pro-Palestinian protest group as part of normal operations to ensure the safety of participants. Around 8:10 pm, the group became stationary near 1400 JFK Boulevard. At that point, protesters began to set decorative items and flags on fire in the street, escalating the protest beyond a peaceful demonstration. Officers issued several dispersal orders to the group, which were not followed.

Police say around 8:10 p.m. police had attempted to disperse the crowd which had gathered at 1400 JFK Boulevard and instead of obeying, individuals in the crowd began to throw flags and poles at the officers.

During this time demonstrators were waving flags, some of which were Palestinian, and burned others, with one woman seen adding American flags to the flames.

The Inquirer reports that the Philly Palestine Coalition held a rally in Rittenhouse Square earlier in the evening, encouraging attendees to march “against this war machine,” and ended up near City Hall.
