Philadelphia police are investigating after a driver was shot at least five times in the city's Hunting Park neighborhood.

Police initially said they were looking into a possible road rage shooting because there was a crash involving multiple vehicles right before the shots were fired. However, there was no mention of a crash in an update from police.

Action News is working on sorting out those details.

What we have learned is that the 18-year-old victim was standing outside his car at 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday near 9th and West Erie Avenue when a vehicle pulled up, someone got out and then shot the driver multiple times in the chest.

Police say 12 shots were fired and that the victim was hit at least five times.

The victim then still managed to flag down officers who were patrolling in the area of Front and Erie Avenue, not far from St. Christopher's Children's Hospital.

Officers pulled him out of the car and rushed him to Temple University Hospital. They were able to get him to the hospital quickly enough for treatment, where he is said to be in critical condition but is expected to survive.

A 16-year-old was also in the car with the victim but was not injured, police said.

Chopper 6 was overhead as police investigated several vehicles after the shooting.

Police said they are looking for two suspects in connection with the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
