PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man has been sentenced for his conviction in the hit-and-run death of another in the parking lot of a bar in the Northeast almost two years ago.

Sobbing through the hours-long hearing Thursday morning, Frederick Falcon tearfully apologized to the family of Jason Corona, moments before the judge sentenced him to 5 to 10 years behind bars.

Judge Charles Ehrlich convicted Falcon in May of homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and related offenses.

Corona’s cousin sobbed through her victim impact statement, recalling what she witnessed that November 2022 night. Corona was struck and killed by Falcon in the  Union Tap bar parking lot after Falcon became enraged that one of the cousins rejected his advances. Falcon drove off and later turned himself in to police.

She added that Corona was a gentle, genuine person who loved to joke around.

Corona’s father told the judge his family has been torn apart by heartbreak and grief and described his son as happy and loving, with a life ahead of him he’ll never be able to live.

Falcon’s family and friends described the defendant as a respectful, kind new father who has extreme remorse.

Judge Ehrlich repeated “This never should have happened,” calling it a senseless tragedy. Before being escorted away in handcuffs, Ehrlich told Falcon he hopes he seeks treatment for his anger while in prison.
