    Philadelphia man sent home from Egypt to face 12-year-old indictment relating to traveling for sex with minors

    PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 49-year-old man from Philadelphia appeared in court on Thursday and will be detained until he is tried for charges related to engaging in sexual conduct with a minor while abroad.

    With the help of Egyptian authorities, Idris Abdullah Malik was apprehended in Egypt and returned to the United States. According to the indictment, he face four counts of travel to engage in illicit sexual conduct and one count of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

    Malik is accused of traveling to Egypt several times from 2000 to 2006 to committed sexual acts with minors. After he was originally charged in 2012, officials say, his whereabouts were unknown, until he was recently arrested in Egypt.

    If convicted, he could face a maximum possible sentence of 150 years in prison.
