Jaron “Boots” Ennis successfully defended his IBF welterweight title with a TKO victory over David Avanesyan Saturday night (Jul. 13) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

“I knew I was too strong for him,” Ennis said. “I should have listened to my corner a little more. Jabbed a little more, got to that body a little more, more angles. … It’s OK.”

As Ennis fought in front of a home crowd of 14,119 fans, there were strong opinions about his fight not bring covered nationally, Nigel Collins, former editor, said that the lack of coverage from NBC sports was very disappointing consideration the aforementioned factors.

“There were 14,119 fans at the Wells Fargo Center last Saturday night to watch Philly’s Boots Ennis defend the IBF welterweight title. Not a word about it on NBC Sportsnet. Shame on them!” Collins posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to USA Today, Ennis indicated he’d like to fight Terence Crawford even if it requires Ennis to move up to 154 pounds from his current spot at 147 pounds.
