Jalen Hurts needs to get back to running the football and doing it effectively in order to be the best version of himself, Joe Giglio says ( listen here via the Audacy app ).

"He needs his legs to win," Giglio said on Wednesday's 94WIP Morning Show , just six days away from the start of Eagles Training Camp.

"Not that he will become a terrible quarterback if he can't run anymore, but I think for him to be the best version of himself he needs his legs. When he runs 14 or more times the Eagles are 10-0."

In 2023, Hurts rushed 14 times or more just twice and had just one double digit rushing attempt game (Week 14 at Seattle—13 carries in a loss) over his last seven, including the playoff loss.

In comparison, in 2022 Hurts rushed for 14 or more attempts in six games, not including his 15 attempt for 70 yards and three rushing touchdown performance in the Super Bowl.

In 2021, Hurts ran the ball 14-plus times just once—an 18/69/3 rushing performance in a 40-29 win over the Saints.

Last season, Hurts was dealing with—and playing through—a sore knee for the majority of the games. No one really knows how much his knee injury affected his effectiveness to run the ball.

In 2023, Hurts rushed 157 times, just eight less times than he did in 2022 and 18 more times than he did in 2021. And, in 2023, Hurts rushed for a career high and new NFL QB record 15 touchdowns, albeit most of them coming at or near the goal line.

However, Hurts' total rushing yardage was only 605 last season compared to 760 in 2022 and 784 in 2021 dropping his yards per carry to 3.85 in 2023 (it was 5.6 in 2021 and 4.6 in 2022).
