A new store is opening it’s doors along Girard Avenue in Philadelphia’s Brewerytown.

Community Thrift, a second-hand clothing store and workforce development center is the newest initiative by local nonprofit Philly Unknown .

“We employ people who are coming out of treatment or incarceration to give them a chance to have some money in their pocket, to have a job to be able to start working on their life again,” said Britt Carpenter, founder of Philly Unknown.

Finding work can be difficult for those coming out of treatment, but it is often an important part of recovery.

“We offer them paid hours to do little labor things and in the midst of that they get a chance to use the computers and job search and to build resumes,” said Michael Worthy, program manager of Philly Unknown.

Community Thrift is located at 2819 West Girard Ave. It’s doors are open Wednesday through Saturday 11a.m. to 7p.m. Gently used clothing donations can be dropped off during those hours.
