Ex-NBA executive believes 76ers should target All-American forward

The final void in the Philadelphia 76ers' rotation is the backup power forward position, for which an ex-NBA executive believes he has the perfect solution.

Forward Grant Williams feels a bit out of place with the Charlotte Hornets, missing the postseason for the first time in his career. As ESPN's Bobby Marks pointed out , the 25-year-old would find much more purpose with a championship contender.

"How does Grant Williams fit with the team long term?" Marks wrote. "Williams has three years and $41 million left on his contract, and he has value with the Hornets and teams that are looking for a stretch 4 (hello, Philadelphia 76ers)."

Williams is under contract for another three seasons, meaning the 76ers would trade for him in the coming months. Last season was filled with misfortune, as both his former teams (the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks) reached the NBA Finals. If acquired by Philadelphia's front office, he would once again have the opportunity to battle for a title.

He averaged 13.9 points and 5.1 rebounds on 50.3% shooting in 29 appearances with the Hornets. The 2019 consensus All-American isn't the most valuable player on defense, but the Sixers' roster is constructed with balance between the two ends. The additions of Paul George, Eric Gordon, and Andre Drummond provide solid defense and size to the lineup.
