A former Clemson standout had a big Friday night in the big leagues for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Weston Wilson belted his first MLB home run of the 2024 season, a go-ahead solo shot to left center field in the third inning.

Overall, he went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored in the Phillies’ 8-7 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

This is Wilson’s second MLB stint this season, as he was most recently recalled from the minors by the Phillies on July 12. After his performance Friday, he is hitting .308 with his homer, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base across five games (13 at-bats) this season.

Wilson made his MLB debut last August, when he homered in his first career plate appearance, and he finished the 2023 season with a .313 average, the homer, two RBI, five runs scored and three steals over eight games (16 at-bats) with the Phillies.

The now 29-year-old native of High Point, N.C., was drafted in the 17th round (No. 501 overall pick) of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers and signed that June. The Phillies signed him as a free agent in January 2023.

At Clemson, Wilson was a career .260 hitter with a .330 on-base percentage in 175 games (164 starts) over three seasons from 2014-16. He had 26 doubles, four triples, 14 homers, 94 RBIs, 95 runs, 62 walks, five hit-by-pitches and 18 steals.
