NFL insider emphasizes what we already knew about Nick Sirianni ahead of 2024 season

NFL insider Dianna Russini took a deep dive into the Philadelphia Eagles this week and not only pointed out how there were locker room issues in 2023 but also emphasized that head coach Nick Sirianni has no choice but to succeed in 2024.

    Or he's fired.

"They kept Sirianni for 2024 because they felt that Nick could still do this," Russini wrote in her latest article with The Athletic . "And he can. But [Howie] Roseman believes this is a championship roster. What that means: If Sirianni doesn’t take them to that level in 2024, the leash probably isn’t very long."

It was shocking to many when Sirianni's job was secure after what happened last season.

In his defense, he has put together a 34-17 record with three consecutive post-seasons (2-3) and a Super Bowl appearance for the Birds so far.

And sure, that doesn't look like a bad coaching stint on paper, but the disastrous ending to the 2023 season tells another story.

There's no excuse for Sirianni this year as the Eagles continue to have a steady quarterback in Jalen Hurts and are stacked with weapons on both sides of the ball.

General manager Howie Roseman also went above and beyond helping Sirianni out as he filled all of the Eagles' roster holes in NFL free agency and only continued to pull off magic tricks during the 2024 NFL Draft.

Jeffrey Lurie Revealed the Reason Behind Keeping Sirianni in Philly

At the NFL's annual league meetings in March, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie revealed his decision to give Sirianni at least one more chance at coaching the Birds.

Lurie noted that he not only listened to Sirianni but also took into account what players and Roseman had to say about him during their end-of-the-season interviews.

But it was Sirianni's idea of adding offensive genius Kellen Moore and defensive guru Vic Fangio to the staff that really caught Lurie's attention.

"Nick's conscious desire to have top-notch coordinators under him really drove a lot of the strategy and he was hell-bent on making sure we had the best," Lurie said. "And you know, highly encouraged by his both analysis of where we're at, no excuses, basically a fundamental understanding of what needs to be better than the last five or six weeks of the season and not only a return to our championship caliber performance and execution, but improve on that too. Not just go back to what we were, but try to be better than what we were in the really recent past.”

The big difference between this year and last year is that Sirianni doesn't have much say anymore in the offense.

We'll get a first look at what to expect from the new and improved Eagles and Sirianni's new role when the Birds report to training camp on Tuesday, July 23.
