PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — In the last two decades, parents have been warned to limit toddlers’ time in front of the television. As touchpad devices and interactive games grow in popularity, many parents are welcoming the devices. After all, unlike TV, touchpads are interactive.

But a new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association has found that too much time on these devices can have a damaging impact on social interactions.

Toys and games that encourage interacting with people are far superior. The American Academy of Pediatrics discourages screen time before 18 months and recommends parent involvement between 18 months and 2 years of age.
