Philadelphia, PA – Mayor Cherelle Parker and her administration have responded to the mass shooting that took place early Sunday morning in West Philadelphia .

After a group of more than 100 people gathered around a fight, the confrontation turned into a deadly gun fight that resulted in six people injured and three people dead.

Mayor Parker is promising to not relent in the fight against gun violence, stating, “It is not acceptable for people to think that it is somehow okay to come into a neighborhood black party and pull out a gun and just start shooting each other.”

Police continue their investigation into the suspects related to this incident, but officials urge residents going forward to take out block party permits, so police are aware and can plan accordingly.

“We have always had the opportunity to have block parties on our neighborhoods,” says police commissioner, Kevin Bethel. “I do not, as the mayor indicated, want to allow anyone to make what has always been a staple in our communities where we can’t do it anymore.”
