Eagles RB Saquon Barkley explains why he came to Philly

After spending six offseasons with the New York Giants, running back Saquon Barkley took the field for his first training camp practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday.

It's a new era for Barkley, who has accepted how things ended with the Giants and is looking forward to his future with the Birds.

"I try my best not to live in the past, I try to live in the present and take one day at a time. I still have a good relationship, all those guys over there," Barkley said . "I'm thankful for all those guys over there and the past six years, but like I said, moving on, and looking forward to the present. And that's coming in here every single day getting better and improving and learning the playbook and getting ready to go out there and compete and have a great year on my team."

Barkley, who is expected to carry a large workload in the backfield for the Eagles, understands he won't always be the star of the show as he is now part of an offense that features a handful of other weapons, including wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

And the overall talent surrounding him is the main reason he came to Philadelphia.

"Ultimately I came here to build a new legacy, compete, and win championships," Barkley said. "And that’s helping in any way I can. I know there’s gonna be games where they put the trust in 2-6 and want me to take over, and there’ll be games where we let AJ Brown and DeVonta do what they do. I just want to win and that’s what it’s about.”

But just because Barkley has officially moved on from the Giants doesn't mean he has completely written them off.

"I'm thankful for not only that organization over there and all the fans, even the ones who've had something negative to say about me," Barkley said. "They're really important to me, still important to me. But, I'm excited to buy into the culture here, buy into this city, into this fanbase here. Into this team."

We'll see if the fans feel the same way when Barkley returns to MetLife Stadium in Week 7.
