Larry Brown thinks 76ers are the best team in the NBA: "They have an unbelievable situation"

The overall consensus around the basketball world is that the Boston Celtics are the best team in the NBA. After winning the 2024 NBA championship and locking down their entire core to long-term deals, they are still most people's choice to go back-to-back.

However, after witnessing the Philadelphia 76ers' dramatic offseason retooling, Larry Brown has a different perspective.

    76ers as the league's best?

The Sixers enjoyed a busy yet fulfilling summer. With a boatload of cap space, they made significant roster improvements by winning the Paul George sweepstakes, agreeing to a multi-year max extension with Tyrese Maxey, retaining Kelly Oubre, Kyle Lowry, and KJ Martin, and signing Caleb Martin, Andre Drummond, and Reggie Jackson as free agents.

These moves made Philly the league's biggest winners of the 2024 offseason. Also, according to Brown, they turned them into the best team in the Association.

"I think they have an unbelievable situation. Paul George to me is one of the true great players on both ends of the court. When Embiid is healthy, I don't know if there's any way you can stop him. I watched Maxey when he was a young kid, and I didn't realize he'll be this good this soon. But again, they've added pieces around them that are going to really help that team down the stretch. If you ask me, I think they are the best team right now," Brown said on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

    They have to prove it

The Sixers will approach the forthcoming 2024-25 season with a chip on their shoulders. Headlined by Joel Embiid, they might have the best roster in the league, on paper at least. However, they will have to prove it on the court.

Philadelphia hasn't made it past the Eastern Conference Semifinals for 23 years. The Sixers fans can only hope this new group will finally get them over the hump and potentially secure the organization's first NBA title since 1983.
