Phillies surprisingly land White Sox All-Star in proposed trade by insider

The Philadelphia Phillies are arguably the most complete team in Major League Baseball, and they could be getting even better before July 30 comes to pass.

Philadelphia's general manager Dave Dombrowski is not satisfied with the Phillies' MLB-best 64-38 record entering Thursday and wants to buy before the deadline to further enhance Philadelphia's World Series chances.

Dombrowski is going after the most elite talent on the market, but who exactly he covets has been a subject of debate amongst analysts. The Athletic's Jim Bowden has consistently speculated that Philadelphia eyes Luis Robert Jr. of the Chicago White Sox most of all, while USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported recently that the Phillies have given up on acquiring Robert Jr.

On Thursday, Bowden jumped back on the Robert Jr.-to-Phillies train (if he was ever off it) and spelled out exactly what a trade would look like between Philadelphia and Chicago.

Bowden believes the White Sox could trade Robert Jr. to the Phillies in exchange for center fielder Justin Crawford and right-handed pitcher Mick Abel.

"The White Sox would ask for shortstop Aidan Miller straight up and the Phillies would decline," Bowden said. "They’d then ask for right-hander Andrew Painter, who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, to be in the deal and again would be turned down. However, a deal for Crawford and Abel should be able to get done."

"I know Phillies fans will be screaming not to include Crawford, a first-round draft pick in 2022 out of high school, who has already reached Double A; however, Robert is a better overall player with much more power and could be the final big piece that helps the Phillies win the World Series this year."

Will Robert Jr. be the next stud acquisition for Dombrowski? It's only a matter of days before the entire baseball world finds out.
