The Market-Frankford Line is getting new cars in 2029.

Septa awarded a contract to Hitachi Rail. The new fleet will have improved accessibility and overall reliability.

Other features include digital wayfinding displays, greater passenger capacity, and regenerative braking to conserve energy.

Delivery is scheduled to begin in 2029. With a full fleet delivery by the end of 2031.

put your money where riders appreciate new cars. replace the regional rail cars that are old as hell. take those cars and put them on the MFL.

Why are they receiving at least 200 new L cars when the most they ever run at one time is 96 cars and that's only approximately 20 hours during weekday rush hours. If they had a qualified efficient maintenance department they would only need at most a 25% cushion of cars or 120 cars
