One of the world’s biggest coffee chains is preparing to give a little back to the City of Brotherly Love. Starbucks has plans to open a community store in Philly before the end of 2024, reports 6ABC.

The java juggernaut has not revealed a precise location for the socially conscious shop, only that it will be somewhere in North Philadelphia. The project has been a long time in the works; Starbucks first pitched the idea of a community store in the area 7 years ago. The pandemic slowed down plans for the location, however a Starbucks representative confirms the brand is planning to open the cafe before the year is out.

The community store model differs from conventional Starbucks by actively involving local vendors and workers. The brand specifically seeks out “diverse, underserved, low-to-medium income” neighborhoods for these particular cafes. Community stores prioritize working with marginalized suppliers and partners with local non-profits. Additionally, the physical space is available for community events.
