Phillies surprisingly land White Sox silver slugger in proposed trade

The 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline is just over 24 hours away.

There already has been plenty of movement across the league and the chatter only is going to pick up as the deadline approaches. The Philadelphia Phillies already have been busy and it wouldn't be shocking if they made another trade.

Philadelphia currently leads baseball with 65 wins but adding some more depth still could be in the works and Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly floated Chicago White Sox silver slugger Eloy Jiménez as an option .

"Trade: Phillies acquire (Designated Hitter/Outfielder) Eloy Jiménez from White Sox," Kelly said. "Let's be clear: The Phillies may be done after acquiring reliever Carlos Estévez and outfielder Austin Hays. President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski even said Saturday that the Phillies are happy with where their bench is at.

"But adding a power threat off the bench might be the one thing missing from the Phillies lineup. Eloy Jiménez has had his career drastically altered by injuries, but he is still only 27 and hit 18 home runs a season ago for the White Sox. If the Phillies are in need of a season-changing swing in October, he's probably more likely to provide it than some of their current bench options."

Jiménez hasn't had a great year but has had double-digit home runs in each of the last five home runs and likely will again this year. Philadelphia could use a boost and Jiménez may not cost too much.
