Jalen Hurts was really sharp to open up Philadelphia Eagles training camp, according to head coach Nick Sirianni .

Going into 2024, two seasons after coming within a few plays of a Super Bowl title, all eyes are on Hurts and if he can elevate Philadelphia once again. New offensive coordinator Kellen Moore takes over that side of the ball this Fall, which has been good for the former second round pick.

Sirianni is quite pleased with his captain.

“I think he’s looked really sharp,” Sirianni said “He’s been in complete command of the offense. You know, I’ve really liked that. Some of the plays … obviously, you’ve seen him on the deep ball, the intermediate, the short passes, but some of the ones that I really like is that there’s a little bit of pressure. He slides his feet and he hits the check to Saquon on a check down, or Kenny (Gainwell) on a check down.

“So I think he’s had a really good camp so far. I’m really excited for him to continue that. You know, there’s ebbs and flows in camps, and he’d been on the high end for the last four days. And so really excited about him and how he’s looked so far.”

Hurts was still very productive last season, but turned the ball over at a higher rate compared to his near-MVP season in 2022. He had 3,858 yards, 23 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, a 65.4% completion percentage, 605 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.

“By the way, getting Kellen Moore, this guy is a veteran offensive coordinator,” NFL columnist Adam Caplan said, via 97.5 The Fanatic. “I’ve talked to coaches who work with Kellen, very excited about what Kellen does. And, boy, [Jalen] Hurts has really taken to the scheme.”

Following a collapse after a 10-1 start in 2023, Sirianni made coordinator changes and there’s seemingly a lot of pressure on Hurts and company. To get it right, the quarterback took new instructions in stride.

That included minicamp and OTAs, trying to get everything down ahead of training camp.

“Well I think it’s still early,” Hurts said during OTAs. “I think you know just Kellen and coach Doug (Nussmeier) have come in and and been really structured, organized, how to plan from the jump. I think and hope that it’s going to be a big difference for us.

“I didn’t see any difference in what we did you know, the other days than this. You know (minicamp) was something we did for the first time and it was great work.”
