BlackStar Film Festival 2024 is this weekend

The BlackStar Film Festival is an opportunity for black, brown, and indigenous artists from around the world to showcase their films to the public.

From August 1st to 4th, you can view these films, festivities, and events at various venues in Center City including the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts

“The BlackStar Film Festival uplifts the work of black, brown, and indigenous, mostly independent filmmakers who are making short films, features, experimental music videos,” says Maori Holmes, with BlackStar Film Festival.

This will be the 13th annual celebration and organizers say to expect much of the same, but Holmes adds that “this year we always have new films of course and we have new panels and there will be new faces, but a lot of the festival will be the same. There’s parties and there’s a marketplace on Saturday and so this year I think there’s just going to be a lot more people.”
