DeCamara wonders if offseason contract situation is negatively affecting Harper's hustle

Bryce Harper is in one of his biggest slumps of his Phillies tenure.

"Yeah, going through it. Just is what it is, try to battle out of it as best as I can," Harper told the media after Wednesday's loss to the Yankees, the Phillies' first time being swept at home in two years.

Harper is 1 for his last 29 and 0 for his last 17. Over the last 28 days, he's 10 for his last 67 (.149).

On top of that, Harper's body language, demeanor and even at times hustle on the field has not appeared to be at 100-percent and Joe DeCamara suspects that could be due to him not receiving the contract extension his hoped for this past offseason.

"This is the worst body language we have seen from him by far and it is the worst case, by leaps and bounds, of him not fully hustling often," DeCamara said on Thursday's 94WIP Morning Show. "And that's where I say the contract, I think, is a factor here. Because I never saw it before this year."

Both Jon Ritchie and James Seltzer, as well as the overwhelming majority of fans on the 94WIP Morning Show X poll, disagreed with DeCamara.

On the season, Harper is still slashing .274/.370/.540 with a .909 OPS, 24 home runs, and 67 RBI.

The Phillies are in a major rut, losing five straight series' and 10 of their last 14 games. And things won't get any easier, as the Phils head out west for a 10-game road trip against the Mariners, Dodgers and Diamondbacks.

The 65-43 Phillies no longer have the best record in baseball and their NL East lead over the Braves is now just 6.5 games.
