    Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Part of the Philadelphia Eagles' response to their collapse across the final month and a half of the 2023 season involved replacing offensive coordinator Brian Johnson with Kellen Moore this past winter.

QB Jalen Hurts won't take a meaningful snap under Moore until September, but Chris Franklin of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com mentioned on Thursday how the quarterback has already impressed during training camp as part of a new offensive scheme.

"The biggest improvement in his game so far has been his willingness to hit the check-down receiver, an aspect of the offense that was not utilized much last season," Franklin said about Hurts. "...Utilizing the check-downs more will help increase his completion percentage to levels close to 70%, a little more than five percentage points higher than last season’s 66.5%."

Hurts emerged as a regular-season Most Valuable Player Award finalist as he guided the 2022 Eagles to Super Bowl LVII, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. He once again was a candidate for that award when the Eagles entered last December at 10-1, but the club then shockingly fell to 11-6 before it suffered a 32-9 wild-card playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Over the past six months or so, rumors about Hurts' leadership style negatively impacting the Eagles and his relationship with head coach Nick Sirianni allegedly being "a work in progress" have hovered over a franchise that reportedly could become a landing spot for former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick this coming winter. Hurts enjoying a bounce-back year under Moore would go a long way in eliminating such chatter.

"Hurts has also looked decisive when choosing his targets," Franklin continued. "During (organized team activities) and minicamp, Hurts was pushing the ball downfield and trying different options and throws to see how it would look against the defense, resulting in interceptions and pass breakups. However, Hurts has looked sharp (in training camp), quickly going through his reads and then throwing."

As of Thursday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed Hurts tied for sixth among the betting favorites at +1500 odds to earn MVP honors for the upcoming season.

If he remains in such conversations through January, both he and the Eagles should be able to put the events of the previous campaign out of memories by the time the next postseason tournament gets underway.
