    Spend time outdoors by attending these events at Philly Parks

    The end of summer is almost here and if you are looking to spend some time outdoors, why not go to one of the many amazing parks right here in Philadelphia?

    Named the ‘Best Playground in Philadelphia’ the Anna C. Verna Playground at FDR Park will be hosting a FREE event on August 17 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

    Love dancing? Head to the historic FDR Park Boathouse on August 9, September 23, and September 27 for a FREE all-levels dance lesson from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. followed by a social dance from 8:30 – 11:30 p.m.

    Want to watch some stars and go on a hike? Head to Lemon Hill on August 13 from 8:30 -10:30 p.m. and September 10 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and learn from astronomy educator Buddy Muhler and join stargazers of all ages for a moonlit hike and telescope observation. The cost is $15.

    Try your hand at nature photography and birdwatching at the Ohio House in Fairmount Park on August 3 from 1-3:30 p.m. The Fairmount Park Conservancy and Troy Bynum from TB Wildlife Photography LLC will host a nature photography workshop and guided bird walk.

    Try out your green thumb and make sure the parks are in tip-top shape by helping the Fairmount Park Conservancy for a Volunteer Workday. You will help by weeding, invasive plant removal, trash pick-up, trail maintenance, and more. Every Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Carousel House Farm.

    Learn about the past and present of Parkside by attending a walking tour with the Fairmount Park Conservancy and Michael Burch (science educator, community organizer, and founder of the Parkside Journal) for a 2.5-mile guided walk to learn about the history of the Parkside neighborhood and the Centennial District. The cost is $15 and it will be on September 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    Soak up the views of Philly at sunset and take a guided kayak tour on the Schuylkill River led by Hidden River Outfitters. The cost is pay what you can, typically $40-$60, and will be on August 28 from 6 – 7:45 p.m.

    Embrace your love for Jazz and music with a free jazz performance at Parkside Edge with Luke Carlos O’Reilly. The concert is free and will be held on August 11 and September 8 from 5-8 p.m.
