Chip City Cookies arrives in Philly

Popular New York City-based Chip City Cookies opens its first Philly location in Rittenhouse Square on Friday.

Why it matters: You can embrace your inner Cookie Monster with classic and fun new flavors.

What to expect: Freshly baked goodness, with some flavors rotated weekly. A new batch of cookies comes out of the oven nearly every hour.

    • The shop's 5.5-ounce cookies come in dairy-free options ($5), together with smaller "thin chips" ($3.50).
    • A scoop of ice cream will cost you $4 each and you can choose from four flavors, including chocolate s'mores.

Plus: The store takes on the viral croissant-cookie mashup. Their version — the "chip crookie" ($6.50) — comes in several flavors.

Dig in: I stopped by the shop for an early taste.

    • I tried the strawberry shortcake cookie and classic chocolate chip.

💭 My thought bubble: Warm, gooey and filling!

    • These are big, weighty cookies: One could easily be a dessert for two — if you're willing to share.

On the menu: The open week's cookie flavors include chocolate chip (the most popular), Cookies N' Cream , Frootie Crunch , Blueberry Cheesecake and Hot Honey Cornbread .

1 free thing: The first 100 customers at the shop Friday get a free cookie.

    If you go: 204 S. 17th Street

    • Hours: 11am-10pm Monday-Sunday
