MADISONVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — A suspect has been identified and charged after a shooting that left one woman injured in Philadelphia, Tenn. over the weekend, according to Monroe County court documents.
On Sunday, Sheriff Tommy Jones said that deputies found a woman with a gunshot wound in the area of the 700 block of Seed Tick Road in Philadelphia. She was taken to the hospital with “serious injuries.” Jones also said that a “male subject” was found nearby and “taken into custody after deputies breached the residence.”
That suspect, identified as Michael Earl Dowling , has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated domestic assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
The affidavit states that on Saturday, June 15, MCSO deputies responded to a residence in the 700 block of Reed Springs Road in response to a report of a person being shot. Arriving deputies found a woman inside a residence, who had allegedly been shot by her boyfriend, Dowling. She had a “large wound to her left chest area consistent with a gunshot wound,” the affidavit states, and during the investigation deputies learned that Dowling was possibly located at another residence along Seed Tick Road.
“Deputies made several announcements for Mr. Dowling to exit,” the affidavit states. “After a short while with no response, Deputies made a forced entry into the residence… Once inside the residence, Deputies located Mr. Dowling on a bed in a bedroom. Located near Mr. Dowling was a handgun. Also located inside the residence were several rounds of shotgun ammunition. We did locate a shotgun that had been cut off inside the residence.”
Dowling was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed that the shooting occurred at the Seed Tick Road residence. Dowling is being held on no bond and his next court appearance is scheduled for July 1.
As of Tuesday morning, MCSO said the woman was still alive.
