PHILIPSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) – As part of the Heritage Days Festival, Philipsburg’s Heritage Center had a small tribute for the closed state hospital.

The Philipsburg State Hospital served the area from 1922 before it closed years later. The special celebration was a way to pay tribute to all those who worked or were cared for at the hospital.

This included staff members, nurses, doctors, technicians, lab workers, maintenance workers, student nurses and of course anyone who was born there!

People were invited to share memories and stories from the old hospital along with photos as a way to reflect on Philipsburg’s rich history.

“This is probably one of the most personal connections for people because they are very experienced growing up here,” Tom Laird, representing the heritage center, said.
