Shockers Fall in Exhibition Opener
The Wichita State Shockers lost their 2024 exhibition opener against the (RV) Kansas State Wildcats, with set scores of 29-27, 25-20, and 25-17. Despite taking a 19-14 lead in the first set, the Shockers couldn't hold off a late rally from Kansas State. The second set saw Kansas State pull ahead with a significant performance from Aliyah Carter, who contributed seven kills. In the third set, Kansas State dominated early, resulting in a comfortable victory. The Shockers will next compete in their regular-season opener against Kennesaw State next Friday.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A celebration was held for expectant mothers in Shawnee County on Saturday morning. “Baby showers are synonymous with getting the things you need, right? You have baby showers for moms to get them set up with what they need to have so that they’re prepared when they bring baby home. City staff keep systems functioning to provide services to our residents and visitors. Inherent in providing those services, issues often arise that need to be addressed. When issues occur, it is most efficient for customers to contact City staff about that issue. If the issue cannot be resolved at that level, then the City Manager can weigh in to possibly find a resolution. If the issue cannot be resolved by the City Manager, then at that time, the Commission should consider the issue.
Judge grants final approval of settlement in Wichita gang list lawsuit
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – A federal judge has approved a proposed settlement resolving a class action lawsuit against the Wichita Police Department for its gang list. The federal lawsuit was filed in 2021 by Progeny, a local juvenile justice group. According to the lawsuit, WPD's gang list includes 5,200 people, 1,700 active members, 3,000 inactive, and 221 gang associates. The suit claimed police target people on the list with frequent stops and searches over minor traffic violations. It also says there's a minimum bail of $50,000 if charged with a violent crime.
