PHILLIPSBURG, NJ—Phillipsburg announced that residents will receive an informational flier with their tax bills next week.

The flier, which reads, “As Per Town Code, Household Garbage Should Be Placed In Containers,” explains that in the upcoming months, Phillipsburg will be focusing on educating residents about garbage pickup regulations.

“When garbage is properly bagged and placed for pickup, it helps keep our neighborhoods clean and tidy, ensures the safety of our hardworking pickup crews, and maintains the efficiency of our garbage collection services, which helps keep costs down for everyone,” according to the flier .

As part of Phillipsburg’s ongoing efforts to enhance the cleanliness of the town, they say they are focusing on improving garbage pickup services.

“Our aim is to create a more organized, efficient, and cleaner operation starting January 2025,” the flier reads.

The regulations stem from an increase in loose items or improperly placed bags for pickup, causing challenges that can lead to scattered trash, potential safety concerns for workers, and inefficiencies in daily operations. Phillipsburg has local trash collection five days a week for residential homes in town. Commercial businesses and multifamily units, based on size, are required to have private collection unless the property has a mixed use allowed by the town code.

The code also states that curbside collection may NOT be placed on curbside more than 24 hours before collection. There was no mention of changing the single-stream recycling, which also must be in a marked container, or the allowance for residential pick-up of yard debris in bags.

Review the flier for more information, or read the town code information on the Town of Phillipsburg website here.
