Nearly a dozen people were displaced from their homes after a house partially collapsed in Philadelphia’s Logan neighborhood on Wednesday.

It happened near North Broad and Wingohocking Streets at around 2:30 p.m.

City officials said the collapse happened on the side load-bearing wall of the home.

Antoinette Cheatham, the homeowner, said she was inside her home with her friend when everything started to fall like dominoes.

“Heard a crack, came down the steps. The dining room was gone, and the kitchen, and the hallway, just fell over.”

She said she was having work done on her home when the incident happened.

Officials said the incident also affected Cheatham’s next-door neighbor. Both buildings were deemed unsafe to occupy by L&I.

As the investigation continues, the utilities were disconnected at that home, and residents were asked to leave.

11 people were displaced in total due to the collapse.

Neighbors said the empty lot to the right of Cheatham’s home is where another home once stood, which they said collapsed the same way several years ago.

Cheatham said she was thankful that she and her family made it out safely.

“God’s on my side because we were in there and we didn’t get hurt.”

Cheatham said she and her husband are staying in temporary housing for now.

The cause of the collapse is still unknown.
